Winter Wonderland Holiday Lights at Hanley Farm
Dec

to Dec 14

Winter Wonderland Holiday Lights at Hanley Farm

The Southern Oregon Historical Society is celebrating the holidays in style at SOHS Hanley Farm, and you’re invited to join us!

The farm, located just two miles north of Jacksonville at 1053 Hanley Road, becomes a magical place for three nights on December 12, 13, and 14 when over 15,000 lights illuminate this historic landmark.

Between 5pm and 9pm each night, you can immerse yourself in lights while strolling through a Winter Wonderland! Experience it with family, friends, on a date, or as a group outing.

Generously sponsored by the SOHS Board of Trustees, this event is FREE! It’s SOHS’s holiday gift to the community!

Established in 1857, this 37-acre Century Farm is owned and operated by the Southern Oregon Historical Society. Originally settled as a land grant, it remained in the Hanley family until 1982 when Mary Hanley, a founder of the Society, donated it to SOHS. It is both a working farm and a museum, the largest artifact in SOHS’s 1,000,000+ collection!

Dec

to Dec 8

2024 Siskiyou School Winter Faire and Market

The Siskiyou School’s Annual Winter Faire holiday event has been a tradition in the Rogue Valley for over 30 years!

At this family-friendly, old-fashioned event, you and your children may dip your own beeswax candle, choose a treat in the Crystal Cookie Room, pick a treasure from the Pocket Person, visit the magical throne room of the Fairy Queen, and more! Many other enchantments, crafts, and activities, along with delicious food and more than 25 gift vendors, will be awaiting YOUR family!

Winter Faire is the biggest community event of the school year. It draws not only alum students and old friends, but hundreds of people from all over the valley who don’t necessarily have any affiliation with Waldorf education. Below is a typical representation of Winter Faire at the Siskiyou School:

FREE RANGER GUIDED SNOWSHOEING AT CRATER LAKE
Dec
10
to Apr 30

FREE RANGER GUIDED SNOWSHOEING AT CRATER LAKE

  • Crater Lake, Oregon (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This winter (2022-2023), walks will be offered on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from December 10 through April 30, and every day from December 17 to January 2 and March 25 to April 1. The walks start at 1:00 pm, last two hours, and cover 1 to 2 miles of moderate-to-strenuous terrain. They don’t follow a trail—the hike is an off-trail exploration through the forests and meadows along the rim of Crater Lake. If the road to Rim Village is closed, the walks explore the forests and meadows in the vicinity of Park Headquarters.

No previous snowshoeing experience is necessary. Snowshoes are provided free of charge, and there is no cost for the tour (apart from the winter entrance fee of $20 per vehicle). Participants should be at least 8 years old, be in good physical health, and come prepared with warm clothing and water-resistant footwear. The walks take place rain or shine (or snow). Pets are not allowed on the hike.

Space on each tour is limited, and advance reservations are required. For more information and to sign up, call the park’s visitor center at 541-594-3100. Organized groups (such as scout troops, hiking clubs, and church groups) may be able to arrange for a separate tour, staff permitting. Call to check on available dates.
