8:00 pm

Emerging as a band in 2021, Broken Compass Bluegrass has rapidly been recognized for their tight arrangements, tasteful picking, and distinguished songwriting. Based in northern California, BCB includes Kyle Ledson, Django Ruckrich, Mei Lin Heirendt, & Sam Jacobs. Though still in their youth, they are no strangers to the music industry. All four musicians are seasoned performers, multi- instrumentalists, singers, & songwriters and they have quickly established themselves as one of California’s most prominent up-and-coming string bands. As their noteriety bubble expands exponentially, they are easily catagorized as the new breed in the jamband scene.

Maya De Vitry at The Talent Club

Saturday, March 22, 2025

8:00 pm

Originally from Lancaster, PA, Maya de Vitry is a Nashville-based artist whose music blurs the lines of country, folk, indie rock, and Americana. An admirer of the dedicated song craft of writers like John Prine, Gillian Welch, and Townes Van Zandt — and of the stirring vocals of artists like Bonnie Raitt and Nina Simone — Maya de Vitry’s music invites listeners into a space of openness and connection.

After a formative chapter with the roots-Americana trio The Stray Birds, she launched a solo career with her 2019 album Adaptations, earning praise from Rolling Stone Country, NPR Music, and No Depression. Since then, she has built a devoted following, drawn to both her recordings and her powerful live performances. Known for her magnetic voice and hard-won sense of purpose, Maya has toured in North America and Europe, supporting artists like The Wood Brothers, Aoife O’Donovan, John Craigie, and Mighty Poplar. Her songs have also appeared on albums by Molly Tuttle, Lindsay Lou, and Steve Poltz, and her skills as a multi-instrumentalist and harmony singer have contributed to many Nashville recordings.

Marty O'Reilly (solo) at The Talent Club

Thursday, February 27, 2025

8:00 pm

Cathartic, genre-bending Folk

Explaining Marty O’Reilly’s music is like describing a dream. It feels familiar, but at the same time unchartered. His songs sound bluesy but not blues, folk but not folk, soulful but not soul. Marty’s voice is beautiful and unique, his lyrics stark yet lush over gritty electrified guitar, melding beautifully into genre-defying music within the vast definitions of Americana. One can hear an urgency and complexity in the songs, expressing something elemental and perhaps contradictory: love and anger, joy and pain, real and imagined.

The live performance is at the core of Marty’s projects. On stage, whether accompanied by a band, or alone, he enters a trance and the music is born again as something new every night. It’s what his followers call “magic”. He goes from raw gospel blues to cinematic epics, from heavy driving grooves to delicately arranged folk songs. Marty leaves the stage out of breath and sweaty, his audience in awe. It’s hard to describe, impossible to categorize. Yet people who know the music will try to explain it to you, just as you might struggle to explain a dream in the morning. The details might slip away as you recount them, but the feeling remains.

“I started playing music as medicine for myself to feel good and digest some melancholy,” Marty leaves off. “Over time, I realized if music makes me feel good, the people around me who become a part of it will feel good too. It connects us on the same wavelength. I hope to give the world something real and refreshing.

Chest Fever (The Best of the Band) at The Talent Club

Saturday, February 15, 2025

8:00 pm

The stories, legend and community of The Band live on through the passion and magic of Chest Fever, newly embodied in the live performance and burning energy they bring to every stage. Officially approved by Robbie Robertson, Chest Fever is comprised of keyboardist Jody Bagley, guitarist Dan Cervantes, and bassist Blake Dean of the San Diego Music Award winning rock band Mrs. Henry, rounded out with organist/saxophonist Ben Pinnola, and drummer Allan Ritter.

“We set out from the get-go to interpret these songs rather than recreate or pay tribute” explains Bagley. Dean continues, “Like Leonard Bernstein, the goal is to bring to life compositions from one of the great catalogs in the history of music. We like to say at every show: “We are a band playing the Band’s music.” Our band is Mrs. Henry, performing as Chest Fever. It’s like Bruce Wayne by day and Batman by night.”

Mr. Steely Dean and the Whatever

.Friday, December 27, 2024

8:00 pm

Once upon a time, in the Rogue Valley of Oregon, Dean decided that he wanted to play with his favorite musicians, all busy music professionals who lead their own groups and support other artists locally and globally. He and Actual Wolf, along with the Grand Marquis, hatched a plan to make a certain kind of music with no rules about how or what to play. They devised a catch phrase, based on an old ad by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker who were looking for good players in New York City. “Must have chops. No hangups.”

Dean Angermeier, Eric Pollard (Actual Wolf), Jacob Rubanowitz (Yak Attack), Nick Kirby (Every Band Ever) and Tarik Ragab (Raze the Maze) are all global musicians who just happen to be lucky enough to live in the Rogue Valley together. Collectively they have played with just about EVERYBODY in the valley, including Jeff Pevar and Inger Nova with Zepdrix and Lovebite, The Rogue Suspects, DKSP, Hopfinger, Dead AF, Yak Attack, Rogue Underground, The Robbie Dacosta Septet, Jah Sun, Bishop Mayfield and Friends, The Frankie Hernandez Band, Modern Prometheus Jazz Company, Saucy, Shine On and on and on. If there is a group or performing musician in the Rogue Valley, there’s a better than aught chance that one or more of these guys have played with them at one time or another. They’ve played all over the world with global touring bands, but always come back to the Rogue Valley to play with their friends and live in the greatest place on God’s green Earth.

Rock, jazz, blues, jam, country, dead, free, and even hints of classical make their way into the music of Dean’s Funtime Party Band. Basically it is any kind of music you can play with an actual instrument. And these guys play some of the most epic grooves and notes heard anywhere in the ether. Combining songs and elements of Miles Davis, Grateful Dead, Steely Dan, Jaco, Charlie Parker, Paul Simon, Wayne Shorter, Phish, Keith Jarrett, Allman Brothers, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan, along with original music, The Funtime Players just love to play! For the growing number of fans of DFPB, there is great incentive to catch each and every show. You’re guaranteed to hear something you’ve never heard before. And you never know who will show up to sit in with these crazy cats.

In addition to playing whatever musical choices they like, the members of Dean’s Funtime Party Band get to play whatever INSTRUMENT they want to play. They set up multiple drum sets, keyboards, guitar and bass rigs so they can all jump on whatever they like. One of the amazing things about these guys is that every player can play every instrument. Dean might hop on the drums, Nick and Jacob might switch whatever instruments they happen to be playing at the time, Actual Wolf may grab a guitar, and Tarik might push Dean off the keys so he can rip a mind numbing key solo to rival his bass badassery.

So check your interwebs, your socials, and your network of fellow Funtimers to keep track of where this stellar group will be playing next, and for their upcoming original album “SERIOUS FUNTIME” to be released in 2024. Soon enough they’ll be coming to a city, state, or country near you, and you can share in the crazy musical adventures of Dean’s Funtime Party Band.

A Love Electric

Wednesday, December 18, 2024

8:00 pm

Todd Clouser is a composing guitarist, songwriter and performer based between Mexico City and the USA. Combining elements of rock, jazz blues, spoken word and improvised musics, Clouser has toured the world with his group A Love Electric, as a solo act and performed alongside luminaries from John Lurie to John Zorn, Flea, Cyro Baptista, John Medeski, Keb Mo, and more, performing at rock, jazz and world music festivals across the globe.

Clouser’s prolific output and genre-evading creativity had NPR call Todd “a fascinating musician ….. (he) doesn’t belong to any scene and doesn’t want to”, Time Out NYC hailing his rock jazz trio A Love Electric as “illuminating”, and Mexico City’s La Jornada mentioning the group as “one of the most important acts of recent years”. A native of Minneapolis, MN, Clouser grew up traveling the USA following his favorite artists and self publishing poetry and recordings before being signed to Ropeadope Records for his first “proper” release, entitled “A Love Electric”. As time and tours passed, A Love Electric became a band, first an instrumental act joined by NYC downtown scene heroes Steven Bernstein, Cyro Baptista, and Billy Martin, eventually settling as a trio that explores Clouser’s songwriting while honoring the inquisition and fearlessness or jazz tradition, with Hernan Hecht on drums and Aaron Cruz on bass. The trio has gone on to release 6 records on labels in the US and Mexico while performing nearly 1,000 concerts in the span of 7 years.
