WHERE TO STAY IN MEDFORD, OREGON: THE ENCHANTING LADY GENEVA BED & BREAKFAST
The biggest reason for any of us to go on vacation is to take a break, to be away from home, and to forget our obligations. Right?! While it is not always possible to plan a week-long trip because of time limitations, money, and we can't forget finding a place for the kids to stay, we try to get away for a night here and there just to gain our balance and reconnect as a couple. Gary and I decided to "staycation" in our own town and to stay at the beautiful Lady Geneva Bed and Breakfast so we could unwind for a night.
NOTE: We were invited by Lady Geneva to stay for the evening, but our visit and opinions are based off our own wonderful experience.
Lady Geneva is located on the charming and historic, cobblestone Geneva Street just two blocks from downtown Medford. Talk about being transported, from the moment we pulled up to the craftsman style home we were swept off our feet. The welcoming glow coming from the windows showcased its beautiful architecture and we couldn't wait to get inside. Gloria and Cecil greeted with us a choice of red or white wine and then we were taken on a personal tour of their home.
Built in 1914, the Lady Geneva offers five cozy rooms named in honor of the ladies who owned the house. Each room has its own charm with gorgeous, curated décor and we had the privilege of staying in the Lady Florence which was named in honor of the first lady to own the Buhrman house. It's also the only room with a private bathroom. We were spoiled with their romance package that includes a bottle of sparkling wine and their custom souvenir Lady Geneva wood board loaded up with delectable treats to nibble on. They also offer an Ultimate Date Night package, Cheese Lover's package, and even a Girlfriend's Getaway Package; just ask them to add it to your stay and they will take care of all of the details. We really appreciated the fact that they support as many local businesses as they can. The soap and toiletries in the bathroom are from local soap maker Emz Blendz, they had lavender sachets from a local farm, champagne from Argyle, and the cheese was of course from none other than our own Rogue Creamery.
Once we got settled in, we sipped the rest of our wine and nibbled on the cheese board before heading out to dinner.Their location is ideal because they are only two blocks away from downtown, with an endless choice of restaurants. Some of our favorites include Pomodori, Jefferson Sprits, Immortal Spirits, Misoya, BricktownE, Common Block, The Rogue Grape, or Larks for dinner and adult beverages. Make an evening of it and head to a show at the Craterian Theatre or head to 4 Daughters for more cocktails and some pool! If you want to do a little shopping the Village at the Medford Center is just a 5 minute walk north where you can shop its boutiques Ella Lane and Simply Sharpe, get spoiled with a facial at Adorn Waxing and Skincare, take in a show at Collaborative Theatre Project or a movie at Cinemark, and finish it all off with some dessert at Delish Bakery or ColdStone Creamery.
We opted for dinner and cocktails at Pomodori Bistro and Wine Bar a sweet little Italian restaurant. The cocktails are always a step above and the food is fantastic. If you want to really see the action, sit at the bar and watch Ben and Skyler as they craft beautiful, tasty cocktails. Ask Skyler to make you one of the best margaritas you will ever have and Ben makes the perfect Whiskey Sour. They truly are artists. If you want to stroll next door to Jefferson Spirits you can continue your amazing cocktail experience and Kalea and staff will make you something. They are always pushing the envelope with new creations seasonally and they offer unique bites, such as house pickled vegetables, charcuterie boards, deviled eggs, and some of the best mac and cheese you will ever have (get it topped with prosciutto). If you want dessert take a stroll a couple of blocks to Immortal Spirits and get the cheesecake drizzled with their house made limoncello.
When we got back to Lady Geneva the beds were so comfortable we fell asleep quickly to wake to the scent of one of the most exquisite breakfasts we have ever eaten. Cecil cooked us up the most delectable four course meal, starting with a fresh fruit and granola parfait, followed by fresh baked goods from local bakeries, and then a cheese and meat platter.
Then we got to the next level good stuff that has Gary and I thinking that we just want to stay there so that we can stuff our faces with Cecil's amazing stuffed French toast. He made us two different types; one topped with blueberry compote and the other topped with maple, bacon, and pecans, the bread was crispy on the outside and pillowy and creamy on the inside. For savory offerings he made us an avocado toast topped with over easy egg, and an amazing vegetable frittata. The whole breakfast was memorable and delicious…dare we say one of the best breakfasts in southern Oregon.
Our whole stay at Lady Geneva Bed and Breakfast is indelibly ingrained in our mind. Gloria and Cecil spoiled us from the first sip of wine to last bite of frittata and we are looking for reasons to stay again. It's perfect for a special night out, a staycation or an ideal spot to have your out of town guests stay!
